History
ktab.co.uk was registered with Nominet on December 18th 2003, and it started out being hosted with SupaNames. Statto and JTA rapidly uploaded all the old material from www.statto-jtapublishingco.fsnet.co.uk and www.ktab.fsnet.co.uk.
ktab.co.uk’s registration was moved to Easily.co.uk in July of 2005, and the hosting moved to DreamHost at the same time. It then acquired a whole range of other subdomains (see above).
Technology
ktab.co.uk represents a culmination of automation beginning, somewhat humbly, with totally hand-coded HTML on www.statto-jtapublishingco.fsnet.co.uk and www.ktab.fsnet.co.uk.
It was immediately semi-automatic, utilising PHP to assemble pages form a generic top and bottom with a custom middle. The HTML used was the “so 1998” tables-driven type, despised by modern nerds. Thus it remained, until the advent of SCMS enabled totally dynamic, database-driven content generation, controlled entirely from a web interface. With this came the upgrade to semantic XHTML, with formatting controlled by CSS.
In a massive advance from the hand-written RSS of ktab.fsnet.co.uk, it now also has dynamically-generated feeds.
Soon, Statto and JTA hope to automate the writing of the website too, allowing them to sit back, relax, and enjoy the website themselves.
