The Playing Place

The Playing Place is equipped with mobile chair-table combination units, designed to be easy to move in event of dramatic emergency. Their main achievement is to be hard to balance all your stuff and write on.

Prior to the construction of the New Sports Hall at Adams’ Grammar School, and the consequent transformation of the Old Gym into a Performing Arts Centre, The Playing Place was the location of every conceivable play produced by Mr Banks. In Year 7 and Year 8, it was also JTA’s form room, but it was not until the year 2000 that it achieved its full potential, when both Statto and JTA began to act in proper performances there.

Its name is sometimes abbreviated to DPP, presumably standing for “Da Playing Place”.

These performances included Trojan Women (2000); Green Julia (2001); Dr Faustus (2002); The Killers (2002) and several rehearsals for Macbeth (2003), prior to Mr Banks’ retirement.

The Playing Place interior constists of a small lighting rig, a cupboard for props at the back, a few panels that can be used to black-out the windows and, last time we checked, a small yellow hedgehog sticker placed inconspicuously on the side of a rafter.
